hand-built forms

Nada Romanos Abizaid, a Lebanese native now living in McLean, VA, found solace in nature's tranquility during her early life in a war-torn country on the Mediterranean Sea. This deep appreciation for the natural world would later shape her artistic practice.
She attended The Corcoran School of Art in Washington, D.C., earning a BFA in Graphic Design. Her subsequent career in Beirut as a graphic designer specialized in corporate identity, print, and packaging. During this time, she designed two Lebanese banknotes that have been in circulation since 1994. Her training as a designer honed her eye for precision and structure, an influence apparent in her early ceramic style, which she delved into in 2002 and has since refined through continuous education and mentorship.
After moving to the U.S., Nada reconnected with the natural world, drawing inspiration from its parks, mountainous regions, and the diverse landscapes of the East and West coasts. This connection led to a more organic artistic expression. Her current stoneware sculptural works explore the dynamic interplay between the individual and the community, mirroring the intricate patterns found in both nature and society. She invites viewers to engage their senses and contemplate how a piece's presence activates the surrounding space.
An active participant in regional and national art exhibits, Nada has received numerous awards for her artworks. Her ceramic sculptures are held in private collections in London, Paris, Lima, Beirut, NYC, Miami, LA, D.C., as well as in various locations in Virginia and Maryland. Her work is also featured in a site-specific outdoor installation at Adkins Arboretum in Maryland.
