biography
Nada Romanos Abizaid was born and raised in Beirut, Lebanon, and is currently living in McLean, VA. She earned a BFA in Graphic Design from the Corcoran School of Art in Washington DC, and was presented with The Sophie Z. Winston Award for Excellence in Graphic Design. Working thereafter as a graphic designer in Beirut, her focus was primarily on corporate identity, print design and packaging. She designed two banknotes (in circulation in Lebanon since 1994) and a commemorative medal that are part of the Lebanese Central Bank Museum permanent collection.
Her passion for working with clay started in 2002. Initially, her style in ceramics was influenced by her training as a graphic designer and depicted clean lines, slabs, and geometric shape inspired murals, at times incorporating metal to the artwork. Since moving to the US she is drawn to observing nature on the East Coast and in the West, exploring nature reserves, hiking in aspen groves, and enjoying winter scenes. Her appreciation for nature's organic and ever-changing state and seasonal mutation led to a less structured artistic expression and the creation of stoneware sculptural nature inspired forms. Blair Meerfeld, artist and Art League Ceramics Department Chair in Alexandria, VA, was a great influence and mentor throughout her growth as a ceramic artist. Nada is an active participant in regional arts exhibits and has received awards for her ceramics artworks.
